So this would suggest that the TD itself or at least something close to it in The Vault, in combination with the size of the Kestrel and the applicable collision avoidance logic, is at fault. So in this particular case, the autopilot / collision avoidance would have to be making no decision to avoid, and yet it can dock at other TDs hundreds of times with no problem. The collision avoidance logic obviously takes into account the size of a ship, otherwise a Kestrel wouldn't be made to ride so close to asteroids in comparison to say a Mammoth. It hasn't actually done any turns at this stage that are near to the TD, so any suggestion of inability to turn fast enough is invalid in this particular case. When I do this, the Kestrel invariably crashes directly into the TD in a part that is always solid (not part of the outer "wings"). Command your Kestrel to dock at Teladi trading dock. Try this: Park a carrier (TM will do) between the TD and the gate of sector "The Vault" with a maxed out kestrel onboard. I've noticed that when my Kestrel crashes and destroys itself, there's a distinct pattern.
